Aaaaand…we are done with September! The holiday collections are already making an appearance in stores which means that the best time for beauty lovers is about to begin! I’m already making a list of things I would like to get my hands on, while also trying to be fairly reasonable… Ar you excited about the holiday season approaching?
Today’s post is a summary of my September 2017 favourites and it’s going to be mostly about makeup products. I’ve been pretty consistent with my skincare routine and nothing really stood out enough to be included. But, I think I have a great bunch to share with you and I hope you enjoy the post.
Let’s start from the only skincare product in this month’s line up – the jojoba oil. It’s a really versatile product that can be used on your face, hair or nails and I actually really enjoy it as a cuticle treatment. I’ve been really trying to use a couple of drops at least once a day to keep the area moisturized and soft. I didn’t expect a huge improvement, but was positively surprised. I’ve only been using the jojoba oil for the last two weeks and during that time I haven’t experienced any dryness or tearing.
I’ve also noticed that my nails seem to be growing a bit faster than before, but it’s probably due to the fact that I’ve been really committed to using a treatment product on a regular basis.
Talking about nails, I also have one standout nail polish to share with you. If you like thermal polishes, you need the Lacquer Lust Bonfire in your collection! It’s a stunning shade that transitions from dark brown to nude and it’s packed with holo glitter as well as two shades of metallic glitters (gold and orange). Absolutely stunning!
And the best thing about this nail polish is that it lasts. the first time I used it I didn’t apply any base coat or top coat because I wasn’t sure if it would affect the thermal properties and the polish stayed in perfect condition for 5 days. On my finicky nails it’s a huge achievement. On the downside, the polish is a nightmare to remove, but I’m willing to look past it because the shade is worth it.
I have a new favorite foundation and I believe every one of you with dry skin should give it a go. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup has got it all – a nice medium coverage, beautiful finish and hydrating properties. In short – it leaves the skin looking fresh and beautiful all day. On top of that it also contains an SPF of 30.
The formula is lightweight and a bit watery, but blends like a dream whether you use a brush or a makeup sponge. It does not emphasize dryness or sink into the lines, leaving a naturally glowing finish. Personally, I don’t even need to set it with powder. The only downside of this product is the lack of a pump, but you can get it separately if you want.
I do have a dedicated review of the DesixKaty collaboration with Dose of Colors but I wanted to re-emphasize my love for the highlighters in the line. I wish I could use Mirame on my face but unfortunately it’s a bit too dark, but I love it as a shoulder and collarbone highlight. Fuego works as both and it’s a stunning gold shade. The formula on both products is top notch – they are extremely pigmented and blinding, especially when you apply more than one layer.
Both highlighters last throughout the day on my skin and I haven’t noticed any fading or patchiness. I know the DesixKaty collection sold out quickly with the September re-launch but if it’s coming back in October,so if you’re still wondering if you should get anything, I’d certainly recommend Fuego and Mirame.
Lastly, a lip product I’ve been really impressed with in September. If you read my blog often you may know that I’m not the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks and there are only two or three formulas that actually work on my lips. Now I can add the Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip to this list. I like it because it doesn’t make my lips look crusty and dry and also because it stays very close to the initial shade once dry.
The formula is creamy and opaque in one swipe, so you don’t have to dip into the product multiple times. Also because the applicator has a hole in the middle. The Au Naturelle shade is absolutely beautiful and versatile. It’s fairly close to my natural lip color and doesn’t create a demarcation line inside the lips. The MatteLast Liquid Lip lasts well throughout the day and doesn’t flake off or crumble (no transfer either). It’s quite pricey for a product available at Target, but worth the money.
