The last month of the year starts now – how crazy is that?!? Are you guys ready for 2018? I’m not so sure just yet so instead of looking ahead, let’s talk about this past month and all the beauty products I’ve been really enjoying.
The lineup of today’s post include an amazing hair product, a mind-blowing scent, nail stuff and a staple mascara. Here are the deets…
Let’s start from the most mind-blowing product of the month (if not a year…). I only got it towards the end of the month but I’ve been obsessed from the very first use. If you have seen my post about the Sol de Janeiro products you may know that I had my reservations based on the price point (read more here). However, with their Brazilian Crush Body Mist I feel like you’re getting the essence of what the brand is about – the most amazing, warm and summery fragrance!
It’s still not cheap but will give you the most bang for your buck – you can pair it with any shower gel or body lotion, the signature Sol de Janeiro scent will stay with you all day. I’ve been using it every morning and sometimes even sneaking one spritz just before bed because I want it to linger on at all times… And it does – for a body mist, it stays on exceptionally well (better than my favorite Jo Malone perfume) and you can smell it on your clothes for a couple of days.
If you want to try the Sol de Janeiro products but can’t afford all of them, go for the Brazilian Crush!
I don’t talk about hair products that much on my blog, but when I do, you can be sure it’s something amazing 🙂 Especially if it lands in the monthly favorites. The Pureology Root Lift has been a game changer for my fine and rather flat hair. It’s a volumizer that actually works and maintains the volume at the roots for at least two days.
It has a convenient applicator that allows you to either spray the hair from the distance or be more precise with your placement. The product doesn’t feel sticky once you finish your styling and doesn’t make the hair feel crusty. It’s on a pricey side but you’re getting a huge bottle that will last for months, since you don’t need to use much per application.
If you’ve been struggling with maintaining the volume in your strands, it’s a must try product. Certainly the best volumizer I’ve used in my life.
This next product is a “low key” favorite because I don’t necessarily think of it that way but use it every time I do my makeup. The Neutrogena Healthy Volume mascara has been my go to lower lash mascara ever since I tried it for the one brand tutorial. I don’t find it volumizing enough to use on the upper lashes, it’s more on a natural side for my liking, but it’s a product I can trust to stay on.
Mascaras very often transfer from my lower lashes and smudge under the eyes (both drugstore and high end), this one lasts in perfect condition until I take it off with a makeup remover. No smudging, no flaking and it’s not even a waterproof version… Ideally I prefer to use just one mascara on both top and bottom lashes but in reality it’s not always possible. That’s why I like to keep a trusted product, like this one (or the Clump Crusher Waterproof) handy. And since the Neutrogena mascara is not too pricey, it doesn’t feel like I’m being extra… 🙂
I have two nail items to talk about this month. First off, let’s focus on the most beautiful holographic top coat from Cirque Colors. You can use it as both a top coat or simply as a nail polish. It does look best over a dark color but I’m sure that those of you who like more subtle finishes, will also enjoy it as a stand alone product. The polish will require 3 coats in this case though.
We Trippy is a linear holo polish (I feel very educated on the topic thanks to Simply Nailogical on Youtube…) with a non-greying formula. It does change the shade underneath a tiny bit, but in most cases I find it to be a good thing. It looks amazing in the sunlight – you’ll be mesmerized by the rainbows on your nails! I’ve also been really impressed with the longevity of the product. On my difficult nails it lasts for at least 4 days without chipping or peeling off.
Talking about Cristine from Simply Nailogical, she also helped me rediscover gel nails. I used to own a UV light and a handful of gel polishes before but haven’t really used them that much. It seemed like a lot of work plus I wasn’t that impressed with the gel polish shade selection available at the time. Now with the OneDor Non Wipe Top Coat I am able to use every single regular polish from my collection and still enjoy the longevity and a beautiful gel shine.
The top coat doesn’t need finishing wipes, but I recommend applying it over a fully dried regular polish. I’ve made a mistake of applying it too early and it ended up in a mini disaster. The top layer was cured but because the nail polish underneath was not…need I say more? Now that the trial and error period is over, I’m really enjoying the gel finish which makes even the worst formulas wear for days and days.
