Is there anything better than a Colourpop haul? I don’t think so! I am not going to lie, their lip products are among my all time favorites (I’m talking about you – Ultra Satin Lips!). Initially I was obsessed with the eyeshadows from the brand, but now I can’t walk past a new lip launch… Needless to say, I was more than curious about their Blotted Lip formula.

The description on the website talks about a sheer matte finish that’s lightweight and buildable, but they are not as sheer as you may expect. In fact, they have a very good color payoff and the sheerness will only be noticeable if you have freckles or discoloration on the lips. Otherwise, you won’t really see your natural lip shade under your chosen Blotted Lip color.

They are very matte and almost have a powdery finish which, unfortunately, can emphasize all your imperfections. Out of the four shades I currently own, only one of them is forgiving enough to wear without exfoliating and moisturizing my lips. Others will cling onto flaky and dry areas, making them much more prominent. Some colors from the line can also look a bit patchy if you apply just one layer. Let’s talk about each individual shade in more detail.

Colourpop Blotted Lip – Candy Floss

Candy Floss is my favorite out of the lot. It’s a beautiful terracotta nude shade that works with every eye look and every outfit. The product goes on smoothly and provides a nice, even coverage with one swipe.

Colourpop Blotted Lip – Sucker

Sucker is, unfortunately, my least favorite. I love the coral shade and I would wear it a lot if the formula was better. At the moment it just feels dry and looks patchy. I can only make it work if my lips are perfectly exfoliated, moisturized and when I apply multiple layers.

Colourpop Blotted Lip – On a Stick

On a Stick is a warm-toned pink shade, much more vibrant than what the image on the website would suggest. I don’t mind that at all, though, as it’s a fantastic summer color that instantly brightens up your complexion.

Luckily, you can get away with wearing this shade if your lips are not perfectly smooth (although I would still recommend exfoliating beforehand). The color is opaque, but if you have any freckles or sun spots on your lips, they may remain visible.

Colourpop Blotted Lip – Bee’s Knees

Bee’s Knees is a fuchsia pink, a tone or two darker than On A Stick. This one also has a nice formula and doesn’t tug as much as Sucker. It provides nice coverage with one layer and you can always apply more if needed.

What I really like about the Blotted Lip formula is longevity. They stay on for hours and are capable of surviving your lunch break (unless you’re having something really oily or greasy). For a matte formula they are not very drying and won’t leave your pout begging for a lip balm. What I’m not crazy about is the packaging. The Bee’s Knees shade popped out the second time I was about to use it. It’s still usable, but it would be nice if it was attached properly.

If you’re only after one color to sample the formula, get Candy Floss. Otherwise, you can always apply your favorite lipstick, blot the excess with a tissue and apply a tiny layer of translucent powder to achieve similar effect. I will definitely continue using them, but won’t be expanding my collection in near future. Ultra Satin Lips are still unbeatable, but I may go for the Ultra Blotted Lip version next time I feel like a Colourpop kick…
